 ¥  Welcome to English 1200!

English 1200 helps ECU students as they develop disciplined habits of mind regarding research and writing. While students may have done some research in English 1100 or high school, this course assumes that college students need extended practice with various types of research and how to handle that research ethically and responsibly as they undertake to share the insights they gain with a broader audience.

Students should bookmark the web address for this site, as the syllabus, schedule, and all assignments will be posted here. This site is, however, not a substitute for face-to-face (f2f) class time, so students are expected to be in class, on time, and prepared to do work with their peers and the teacher.

Much of this particular section of English 1200 will be about Internet communities and online "knowledges." To that end, this particular site will also serve as an archive and portal for important links to other sites, include those developed by the students in this class.

This section of English 1200 will also focus on local communities and the various knowledges/types of knowledges they produce. Students will also have the chance to move local knowledge onto the World Wide Web so that a broader community of readers and researchers can learn about communities and groups local to East Carolina University and the Greenville, NC, area.

Check Here for News Updates!
Since our course meets only twice each week, this web site will provide us a space to keep in touch and of me as the teacher to relay important information to students. Ostensibly, this column will be rather dynamic, so that you'll have a "teaser" here each time I add to the schedule or have new links to share.

English 1200 Thinks Through "Community"
Mostly, this "news item" is just filler to keep this particular column full and "on the page" as it were. Lesson One: web content and design are interlinked and thus inseparable. Fun, fun, fun, huh? So much more to come!
