Faculty Interests and Expertise
The faculty has a considerable history of academic and literary publication, of participation and leadership in professional and academic organizations, and of attracting external research funding.
Our interdisciplinary work in teaching and research includes collaborations among English departmental faculty in professional communication, linguistics, multicultural literature, and historical studies, as well as with colleagues in social sciences and medicine.
We also have a strong interest in public service with specific projects in the region including establishing and directing ECU OutReach, consulting for public agencies and nonprofit organizations, and assistance in designing medical information for marginalized groups.
The department publishes three literary journals: Children's Folklore Review, North Carolina Literary Review, and Tar River Poetry. In addition, faculty members serve as editors for Technical Communication and on a variety of advisory and editorial boards for similar journals.
