Hoppenthaler Serves as Poet-in-Residence

John Hoppenthaler was one of the North Carolina poets asked to introduce a poem in Pine Straw Magazine for National Poetry Month. Hoppenthaler chose a favorite poem by Li-Young Lee. Hoppenthaler also read at the launch of the North Carolina Poetry Society/North Carolina Writers Network Poetry in Plain Sight initiative at the Oberlin Regional Library in Raleigh on April 4th. ECU Creative Writing alumna Christina Ruotolo also read.

Hoppenthaler will serve as poet-in-residence at the famous Chautauqua Institution this August. Theodore Roosevelt visited the assembly and famously described it as “the most American thing in America.”
