Tedesco Appears on Concord Days
Dr. Laureen Tedesco was recently interviewed by Tammy Rose of Concord, cofounder of the Transcendentalists 2021 Facebook group, for her YouTube show Concord Days.
The interview focuses on the early attempts of Harriett Lothrop, who wrote pseudonymously as Margaret Sidney, to get published in children’s and religious magazines, attempts that were sped along once Wide Awake editor Ella Farman accepted the writer’s first story about the Five Little Peppers. The interview focuses on Lothrop’s marriage to her publisher—after he published her best-seller about the Peppers, editors’ strictures on her sloppy manuscripts, her characters’ use of slang, and her literary models who included Harriet Beecher Stowe, Louisa May Alcott, and Rose Terry Cooke.
