Graduate Programs

The Department of English boasts a vibrant and growing set of graduate programs. Our award-winning faculty and cutting-edge curricula mean you have lots of opportunities to find a path here. To begin, you can become an expert in Professional Communication, Multicultural and Transnational Literatures, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), or Teaching in the Two-Year College through our four different kinds of graduate certificates. You can also focus more closely on particular areas of study in the PhD in Rhetoric, Writing, and Professional Communication.

Attending graduate school can be expensive, and we strive to make it affordable for you in a number of ways. First, our faculty work hard at advising to make sure that you have all available information and get excellence guidance from us. We offer awards and assistantships to help defray the cost of tuition and provide stipends whenever possible.

We also try to be accessible through our dedication to online programs. This department has been a leader in online education for years and, as such, a number of our graduate degree programs are available online.

As a graduate student, you will benefit from individualized attention from faculty. Whether you are pursuing graduate school to advance yourself in your current position or to seek a new career, our department provides a diversity of options to help you achieve success. For example, among our PhD graduates, 100% are employed full-time and in-field within 6 months of graduation.*
