Lorraine Hale Hale Music Award Presented in Charlotte

This year’s Lorraine Hale Music Instruction Encouragement Award, which carries a $500 prize, was presented to classical tenor Zachary Taylor at the recent NC Metropolitan Opera district competition in Charlotte. Robinson, faculty emerita, whom the prestigious 2023 music award is named for, retired from the department in December of 2012, having served for many years as director of the ECU Center for the Liberal Arts and as senior associate editor of the North Carolina Literary Review.

In addition to her continuing activities as an occasional reviewer for NCLR, she has been a long-time performing artist and teacher (voice and piano) and an avid supporter of the Met’s district auditions, recently renamed The Laffont Competition: Metropolitan Opera.
