Cory Defends Dissertation at UNCG
ECU Creative Writing grad Jessica Cory defended her PhD dissertation at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she specialized in Native American, African American, and environmental literatures.
Cory said, “One thing the committee mentioned repeatedly was my excellent and thorough analysis of contemporary African American and CHamoru poetry, which I attribute wholeheartedly to my MA experience at ECU as a CW major in poetry. A huge reason I was offered the job is that I work in both scholarly and creative writing. Having a creative MA and a scholarly PhD really helped me stand out against the rest of the applicant pool.”
