Shields Publishes Book on the Lost Colony

Retired Professor Dr. Tom Shields and Charlie Ewen’s book Becoming the Lost Colony: The History, Lore and Popular Culture of the Roanoke Mystery is now out from McFarland Books. Shields wrote, “It’s what we have been talking about for far too long. The McFarland page has a good description of the book.”

The book analyzes several hypotheses and demonstrates why none are more probable than others. To understand how the 1587 colonists became The Lost Colony, the authors recount the history of the English expeditions in the 1580s and the original searches for the colonists from 1590 until the 1620s. They also present the archaeological evidence gathered from the 19th through the 21st centuries.
