Gueye Contributes to Venice Architectural Biennale

Dr. Marame Gueye was invited to contribute a text to a collateral exhibition at this year’s Venice Architectural Biennale. The project, entitled “Following the Fish,” is a collaboration between the Ramon Llull Institute, which promotes the Catalan language and culture, and Top Manta, a cooperative of Senegalese migrants in Barcelona called “materos” who are mostly undocumented and sell knock-off designer goods in the streets.

The Biennale is curated this year by Leslie Lokko, and the theme is “Africa, Laboratory of the Future.” Gueye joined a group of international scholars and contributors who wrote on migration.  According to Daniel Cid Moragas, the curator, Gueye’s text was essential in framing the exhibition concept, and they incorporated fragments of it into the exhibition and on their social media platforms. Gueye also co-translated the 17-page introduction into Wolof.
