TALGS Conference

TALGS 2026
TESOL & Applied Linguistics Graduate Student Conference

Sponsored by Greensboro College’s Department of English and
East Carolina University’s Department of English

On Saturday, February 7, the English Department at ECU and Greensboro College co-hosted the 25th annual TALGS Conference. The conference brought together researchers and practitioners from throughout the southeast to discuss best practices in language teaching. Among the presenters were a cohort of Education students at NCSU, a student research team from the University of South Florida, an Uzbek scholar from Boston College, and, of course, our keynote speaker from Oklahoma State University, Dr. Nicole Tracy-Ventura. Attendees were largely area students and teachers, including a cohort of Pitt County Schools teachers, as well as interested faculty from ECU and Greensboro College.

Dean Danell opened the conference with a message introducing the conference as an annual opportunity, over the past 25 years, for professional growth and networking among K-12 teachers and graduate students in the area of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

The conference hosted 60 attendees and offered 14 presentations and workshops, three of which were delivered by current students from the PB TESOL Certificate and PhD in Rhetoric, Writing, and Professional Communication, and two of which were presented by ECU alumni.

We at TALGS are committed to bettering the educational experiences of language learners in the community by providing a comfortable environment where interaction between theory/research and practice/teaching is possible.

Our 2026 conference marks the ninth year of collaboration between the Department of English at East Carolina University, the MA TESOL Program at Greensboro College, and Carolina TESOL.
